I spent time with someone I had hoped would be a man of depth and integrity. Although our moments together were brief, they felt meaningful to me. However, I later discovered that he had shared our time with others in a careless manner, and all of his promises turned out to be untrue.
The disappointment ran deep, not because he failed me, but because I had believed in an idealized version of him. I genuinely expected more.
In my prayer for clarity and peace, I received a profound insight: I was grieving over a blind man's inability to see. In other words, I was holding him accountable for qualities he never truly possessed.
With this understanding, I was able to make space in my heart to forgive him, not because he sought forgiveness, but because peace is far too precious to withhold over another person's brokenness.
Still, this song brings him to mind not from a place of bitterness, but as a gentle reminder of how grace encourages us to let go.
